Tried my hand at making card weaving tablets.
I used dogwood due to its strength, and ripped it down to ~ 1/16″.

I then drilled a template block. In the 1/4″ holes I placed dowel centers so I could make exact marks in the dogwood cards.
I then took them to the drill press to drill the holes, then singed [...]

I had a blast this weekend.
I went into the dusty depths of my wood-shop on Saturday morning, and didn’t come out till Sunday 6pm. (sleeping eating and biffy breaks excluded).
The very best thing of all, I now have the dust extraction lines/hoses established at all my major dust making tools. It was amazing the difference [...]

I managed to get all the wood ripped to the right widths. Taking the time to build a proper jig for the table saw helped out loads.
 
I assembled the pieces only to discover that I didn’t cut the seat board bevels quite short enough.  They are all sitting around an inch out of flat. [...]

Not really a very good update, but I just had to share the photo’s of the pretty wood.
I have ripped all my reddish wood to 3/4″. The pieces are a little bowed still so I will be needing to make a jig to rip the edges down straight. I could have done it before on [...]

I will be using for my x-chair.
It stalled out my tablesaw 6 times to do the one rip.
It also ended up tapering the begining and end to the plank…doh
Just means more work for the mortising holes.

More progress on the x-chair front.
After pulling all the nails out of the skid runners, I moved on to
ripping the runners into 3/4″ x 3″ planks.
My tablesaw got one hell of a work out ripping these boards to size.
The wood is incredibly hard, and after only 2 runners I decided to stop.
