Ok, I finaly finished the working metal prototype.
I learned a boat load of things about building locks, and I look forward to building a finished lock for the skid chest. Got some ideas about decoration for the lock plate… Turnips will be included.
I added the leaf spring, bolt block and a spring block.. These are nails [...]
After I had built my original tudor house, I decided that assembling the house was just more effort than it was worth. I needed something that was much more ready to go. Hence the beginning of the Tudor House Trailer was born. Since I was going to tow this behind my truck I wanted it [...]
Started the metal mock up. I don’t expect this lock will be used in the skid chest. I will be using it to figure out what I need to do to make a nice lock, and avoid all the nasty mistakes.
I started with making a wooden template were all the metal parts were arranged in [...]
A Pillar Cube Dial made for the Shire of Eisenmarche A&S championship (a long time ago)
Made out of red oak scrap, and wood burn details.
It had dials set of Lionsdale, Lionsgate, Clinton, Estrella, and Eisenmarche.

Made my first mock-up of a lock for the skid wood chest.
It ended up working quite well. The next step will be building a proper metal case, and make the workings out of scrap I have kicking around the shop.
Got a bit more done on the fake barrel for the water jug.

Had a bit of a free day in the shop. I have a whole lot of scarpage needing done on the hutch chest, but I am holding of till I buy a new scrapper from lee Valley. I also need to build a lock for the hutch, and that still in the design mulling stage. So [...]
Since I have made my own hinges for the skid wood chest (the style is called a hutch) I am loath to use screws to fasten the hinges down. I want to use a clenched nail, but will not spend good money on real hand wrought nails, if I can bodge something passable. Plus I have [...]
I got the chest project pretty much done except for the finishing work.
I will be doing a whole bunch of scraping in the future, but I thought I would jump ahead,
and move onto the hinges.
The sides are know fully doweled together. I had a bit of a fight to make the last dado to work [...]
