Chest v1.3 The End is Nigh

I got the chest project pretty much done except for the finishing work.

I will be doing a whole bunch of scraping in the future, but I thought I would jump ahead,
and move onto the hinges.

The sides are know fully doweled together. I had a bit of a fight to make the last dado to work right.

I had saved the two widest pieces of skid wood for the lid, there was a fairly decent size
crack running half the panel, so I crazy glued it together. Strong like borscht!

Cutting out the blanks for the hinges

Seem to have lost a couple of pictures…sigh! Managed to roll the metal around
a pin. Then cut the pin to length and peened it to not fall out.

Cutting the Sallow Tail ends

Getting ready to uglify the hinge. Looks way to much like a steel Bar.
Black smithing is hard on your arms. I really admire anyone who
could work at it all day long.

Finished Hinge

Finished hinge on chest.

I need to scrap the entire chest, build a second hinge, and a clasp and
try my hand at making turn nails. I will give it a go with steel rod, failing that
I will buy premade wrought nails from Lee Valley.
