Lock v1.2 Metal Prototype
Ok, I finaly finished the working metal prototype.
I learned a boat load of things about building locks, and I look forward to building a finished lock for the skid chest. Got some ideas about decoration for the lock plate… Turnips will be included.
I added the leaf spring, bolt block and a spring block.. These are nails fitted into brass sleeves, thathave their ends peened over .
Wanted to included a key block. and object that prevents you from putting any old key in the lock. I used a double headed nail with one head cut off. This left the second head to act like a rivet head that has a metal rod sticking out on end. The Key will have a hole drilled in the end toaccomidate the metal rod.
Brass sleeves over the corner nails. This will keed the front plate the same disance away from the back plate.
The fornt of the lock looks so plain. The next one will have added decorations engraved.
Top view of the lock. The plate I used was so thin that it had a tendacy to warp a fair amount. I will be using a thincker plate for the next lock. Also, when the lock is wedged onto the wooden chest the warps kind of disappear.
Back view of the lock. the corner nail haeds still have to be peened down a bit.
