Chest v2.0 Simple 6 Board

A while back, the B&B of Lions Gate asked if their was anyone in the barony that would like to make them a simple chest or table to place between their thrones. I agreed to build them a simple 6 board chest.  I offered to give them my experimental hutch w/lock but The Baroness what quite specific about how high it should be. Hence this chest was begun.

I used 1×12 knotty pine board. All pieces except for the bottom are 18″ long. Notched the side boards to support the front/back board. I clamped the sides and front & back together and drilled holes for the doweling. The dowels were glued in place.

The bottom was cut down to fit snuggly  between the sides and F/B board. Malleted it in. More drilling gluing and doweling. I should have dado’d a 3/4″ slot into the sides to support the bottom, but I was rushed for time and didn’t want to set up the table saw. Bad Mary!

Used a flush cut saw to trim the dowels flush with the boards.

I added strips to the inside of the lid to cinch the lid flat, and to make sure the lid fits were its suppose to fit. The B&B were divided over what kind of hinge I should use. I originally planed to do a gimmel hinge, but decided to leave the choice of hinge up to them.

A few dowels left to remove, and I am done.
