A&S Poll

I have been thinking about entering something in the Tir Righ A&S championship. Just a single entry as I really have no interest in being champion. It would be flattering, but I just don’t have the desire to win… I’ll leave it to other hungry artisans. I just don’t know where to start, so I thought I’d ask you reader for your opinion.

Woodturning is easy and fun (but would I learn much)

Carving is not my best skill (but I could use the practice)

Furniture is challenging (but how much time do I have…could be a rush job)

Period gadgetry is awesome (but my sence of humor is always a liability)

opinions people?

  1. I went for carving … you could practice your skills, and likely come up with something that’s both period, and displays your wonderfully quirky sense of humour ;)

  2. I chose furniture because it doesn’t have to be a super complicated piece but you will probably spend the most energy on finishing this type of project cleanly and with finesse.

  3. @Mailie I was really hesitant to put down carving in the first place. I am worried I might be so critical that I would end up mtossing the piece in the trash rather than enter it… but if the majority wanted it, I’d try.

@Agnes So many options in furniture, and since I would be entering it, I’d have to restrain the creative side of myself (that would be hard).

  4. re: carving – fair enough! I’m biased of course, I love carved items :)

my second pick’d be furniture too … could you do another X chair? They both turned out really well, they’d be quick to do, and super document-able (if that matters)

  5. I would like to try to make a backed x-chair. Think of my exsisting chairs minus one arm rest, and the other arm rest twice as high.
