Funny you should ask that...

I have no experience in painting canvas, and my only attempt at dyeing canvas faded almost the minute it was placed out in the sun.
I was planning on doing some tests on one of my wall sections after this weekend. I will buy some acrylic latex house paint tinted black and cut it with water. I will try both brush painting, and house paint sprayer. So stay tuned.

That and a quick google search found alot of different article on coloring canvas.

As for the spray can. From experience spraying giant japanese mon's all over a Tengu costume I made, I wouldn't advise it as to cover a tent would be stupid expensive, and the paint dosen't penatrate the fabric well. It also gives a soft brushed apperance, and feels kind of strange.

Dyeing with chocolate.... You could give it a shot, but don't use milk chocolate as it would either melt in the sun, or just go funky in general. It would probably be a better use for the stuff than eating it (yes I am a 1%'er that dosen't really like chocholate (beer on the other hand)).

Too few weekends left before Camping season, and way to many projects still needing to be done.

See you at Sealion Rashid

I think my biggest question now might be: any good way of turning white canvas into black? Spray paint? Chocolate bars? Some sort of dye?

Bah I am in no rush, and I have lots of canvas kicking around so I may attempt to start construction before then. It is a square piece of heavy duty, could-sail-it-to-Hades canvas that I plan to supliment with some drop-cloths, then create inner walls with a more decorative fabric (under the protective heavier canvas).

Mostly I think I'd just love to bring you gin and pick your brain about all your incredibly cool projects (Braaaains). So I will look for your Arms upon our invasion (or liberation... however they phrases these things today) and we will converse.

Greetings Lord Rashid al-Qasim,

I am glad to be of service. Is their any specific problems or questions that you are having? Do you know what style of bedioun tent your are thinking of? Will you be at Sealions war, as I have a decent book that shows a few different variations of bedioun tents.

If you cant wait that long... the book is
Tents - Architecture of the nomads by torvald faegre
Abebooks.com have a bunch of copies for sale ($50 up... expensive for what the book is), and I just checked the BC inter library loan catalogue and there are mulitiple copies kicking around BC. None are on the island so you would have to place an order with your local library for a transfer.

Cheers

This is too funny... I did a search for Bedouin tents and your wonderful blogg came up. Reading and reading and finding so much interesting information, I asked myself "Self (I knew it was me, I recognized the accent), where could this person be from?" "Ach (I answered, in a slightly dejected and Scottish tone), she probably lives way out in the Midrealm or Ealdormere."

Much to my surprise you came to my very own Barony for Daffodil! Taboot you're from just across the water! I offer the gift of gin and tonic in exchange for some help with my own Bedouin tenting.
