Hi Mary;

Peter had binders full of slides that he took in the National Gallery and perhaps the V & A, of carpets, and paintings with carpets. They are not always the best quality: low light and no flash, but they might give you some insight and perhaps a painting or two to look for. I can scan a few in and see if they would help you in your search for a central medallion?

Hello Sara, and a massive thankyou.

I have not seen that particular painting before. I have been struggling with the central motif for a while now. I had decided to use a small repeat pattern, but I just thought it didn't look right. I have been using another hans holbien painting for the new central medalion http://www.flickr.com/photos/26911776@N06/2516805005/in/set-72157606060880661/
but its a little hard to pick up details for this angle. The link to the original painting is much clearer.
I quickly took a look around your site, and have added you to my RSS file. I love the stuff you are making, and that fact you have a yurt rocks.

thank you again... can't wait till I get home to start making the final cartoon.

Lovely work! And wonderful descriptions of the process you and going through to make this rug.

I finished a carpet quite similar to yours for a weaver who died: his family wanted the rug he'd made, so I wove just the last border. It's pattern is from The Mass at St. Giles (National Gallery in London) and is very like yours.
