Silk Banners
When I had made the cone of shame, I had made a banner finial for the top of it. If you have a banner finial… you need a banner. I had originally taken a workshop on the subject taught by Mistress Agnes, and had played with it a bit since then… but this was going to be my first banner. Mostly just images after the jump
Stretcher built out of stuff from the scrap bin.
Decided to free hand the turnip. It ended up a little large. All hail the mutant turnip.
The stripy edge bit was all haphazardly drawn. Each segment is a totally different length.
My Motto is a bit of Dog Latin… Make my Day Punk.

The wonder twin wanted me to show her how to make a banner. I am not a particularly good teacher, but I figured… its the wonder twin…. Gotta give it a go.
I couldn’t stick around till completion, but I think it is going to look FABU!
So…tell me about the materials used, how you get the nifty black lines, where to find the silk paints…I wants one!
I buy my supplies at Opus. The black lines are made with” Pebeo Gutta”. They come in different colors including clear if you don’t want lines. The paint I use is “Dye-na-flow”. I use 100% silk lining. The trick is to get a weight that is not too opaque, yet not so heavy that the gutta will not penetrate the fabric. If even the smallest void happens with the gutta resist, the colors will bleed into other areas.
Clearly the most fun part is holding the work in progress up to light to check for gaps in the gutta, then going over and over and over and over all the bits, then checking again and finding bits you missed and going over those.
Then painting the whole banner and having no problems.
Then DROPPING A WET BRUSH ON IT.
