Turkish Carpet v1.4 Cartoon Time
I have been puzzeling over what the center elelment on the Holbein carpet should be. I think the problem I have had is I have no idea what the size I have to fill is. That means I have to start the cartoon. This may not end up being the final cartoon as I have [...]
Turkish Carpet Project v1.3
Did some more experimenting with the Turkish rug project.
I was having trouble trying to get the same number of knots on the warp compared to the weft. I decided to tie the knot around doubled up warp threads. It worked very well as for the first time I have matching knot counts.
I also tried this [...]
Turkish Carpet Project v1.2
*** Yoinked from my other blog ***
I tried out another sample for the Turkish carpet project. This time I tried using the Persian knot. It goes faster than the Turkish knot, but it doesn’t tighten up the same way. In fact it seems really loose until you weave the thread between the rows. I think the Turkish knot leaves a more square look to the [...]
Turkish Carpet Project v1.1
*** Yoinked from my other blog ***
The first sample had a knot grouping of 14×6 knots per inch. That produces a rectangular pattern.
After a suggestion from myss_minx on replacing the weft crochet threads with fine thread, and spreading the warp threads slightly, I have gotten a pattern of 12×9 knots per inch. Still not completely happy. Would like to [...]
Turkish Carpet project v1.0
*** Yoinked from my other blog***
So I have a project itching away at the old brain. I have recently been staring alot at Holbein Turkish Carpets. Maybe its the colors black, orange red, and white that make me think….gawd it would be cool to try and make one of those. I started looking into it [...]
Wool Weave
Finished with the wool I was weaving. Ended up ~ 11″x 12.5′ long. I could have probably squeezed out another foot it I used a smaller dowel on the winder.
The weave is really loose at this stage. It needs some fulling to tighten it up some.
12.5′ of narrow wool. No idea what I am going [...]
More Weaving
I decided to weave some grey wool. It was stuff we had stored in a box in the cupboard for years. I believe its 3 strand/size 4 thread (could be wrong though).
The width of the warp is around 11″’s I think my reed is a little to tight for this thickness of wool
Waiting to be [...]
New Old Loom
Got me a new toy today.
a 24″ 4 shaft Leclerc loom. Chewed the lady down enough to cover the cost of a reed as it is missing that one part. The best part of that is…I have plans on trying to make my own using only stuff from my shop.
New project = Win.
New Play toy [...]
More Weaving
Did a bit more weaving for pouches. I decided to play around with the blue thread warp pattern. I learn best from mucking about till the proverbial light-bulb goes off.
I like this pattern, but it really curved up badly when cut of the loom. I am hoping once its sewn as a pouch it will behave a bit [...]
Houndstooth Weaving
Decided to pull out the old loom. I was going to sell it to Mistress Agnes, but at the last minute choose not too. I don’t have room for a floor loom at the moment, so the $20 Value Village find will have to sufice.
There is an amazing web site call Handweaving.net that has a mind [...]
