Eisenmarche Window
Tribute window I built in honor of a local SCA group. Using Copper Foil construction methods I attempted to make a semi-replica of a 10th century window that hangs in the Augsburg Cathedral.
As I do not have access to a glass kiln, I used a Dremel with a diamond bit to etch out the designs that would normally be painted onto the surface. Once etched, I painted on black enamel paint and let dry. Carefully using a steel wool pad, I removed the black paint from every area except the etched sections. Not nearly as great looking as a true painted window, It does the job.
The phrase “stone of chocolate” replacing the original Latin phrase was a inside joke (Our patron promised to supply a stone of chocolate to the shire every year…hardly ever happened…just a reminder).
The window currently resides in my room, but has been known to turn up inside my “Tudor House on a Flatdeck” soon to be featured on this site.
