This is the same idea I use for my stools, and if you attach the rails with a piano hinge, using 3/4″ birch plywood, 2 stools compact into a 6″ stack that travels in a trimmed down 2 piece apple box.
Nice… I am a big fan of hidden hinges. I drew up this plan for dimensional lumber, but I have only made them with scrounged plywood from my work. IF I had to buy hinges the benchs would no longer be free. (Cheap is a virtue)
