The big push is on. I will be leaving on Friday for Avacal/Tir Righ war. My deadline for finishing this project was this event, so I needed to get on with it.

All of the side panels have been cut out, carved, primed and painted.

Sides and doors with the heraldic badges painted in bright colors.

The butterfly hinges installed on the side panels. These were acquired from Lee Valley Tools. Oddly they were just about the cheapest decent looking hinges at LV, and the closest in shape and style to what the original aumbrys I looked at have. The hinges were attached by clenched nails.

The side panels attached to the back panel. Cheap paino hinges were used for the interior folds. The yellow linen fabric was attached with small copper tacks.

Interior shot of the paino hinge

Front panel with the carved badges painted. The front panel has slight carved out sections to make it look more like it was made out of a series of planks rather than one piece of plywood. Then dowels were placed in false holes to look like drawbored joints.

The front attached to the sides and back. All I need to do is to make a false top, install the folding shelves for the bottom and middle shelf and a couple of door turns.

More painting done on the front door panel. The two headed cock just makes me laugh. I used it as my main charge for a long time, but never bothered registering it. The other two symbols are the populace badges for An Tir, and Tir Righ.

Used a commercial gesso to prime and fill the door panel. Since the plywood had a lot of tear out no matter how carefully I carved, it really did need a bit of a filler.

Plummy Brown stain/paint that I bought miss tinted from a big box lumber store. Used the same paint on the yurt so my walls and cabinet will match… spiffy

Primed the areas where I will be painting with lighter colors.

Finished door panel.

The scrap plywood from my work place. I was originally think of making it out a proper materials and proper techniques… then I gave my head a shake and realized this is a camp cupboard that I am going to paint all crazy like. Why spend money I don’t have on this piece. I also realized that time is running out for AT war.

Ripped plywood crate down to usable size. It was at this point I started to get a grasp on the size. Limited materials = creativity.

Cutting the door panels out with a jigsaw.

Cutting out the doors. I made the doors different sizes, unfortunately I didn’t have a big enough piece of scrap left for the upper door. More scavenging at work.

Pattern for the lower door.

Carving the bevels in the cut out.

Lots more to do.
